SEATTLE (CBS SEATTLE) – Men spend more time talking on their telephones and also speak at a faster rate than their female counterparts, a new study finds.

After analysis of 200,000 phone calls placed to businesses, digital advertising company Marchex found that male callers stayed on the phone an average of 7 minutes 23 seconds while women spoke for just 6 minutes 30 seconds.

The average male caller spoke more quickly with 236 words per call at 32 words per minute versus the average female who spoke 227 words per call at 24 words per minute.

The data was collected by Marchex, Inc., which is a Seattle-based digital call advertising and small business solutions company. The company website states that it offers products, services and technologies that enable advertisers to reach local consumers across online, mobile and offline sources.

The overwhelming majority of calls came through mobile phones. These calls were driven across the spectrum of mobile advertising channels, which includes click-to-call, voice search, mobile directories and mobile display.

Data analysts then used Marchex Call Mining software, which scans for key words and voice tonalities, to aggregate anonymous data points to pick out specific trends among callers to 11 different industries.

For example, the study found that more men call pest control for mice removal services, but females placed 59 percent of roach calls, 58 percent for spider removal and 56 percent for termites.

Data also showed that men are more likely to make calls at the beginning of the day, while women make more calls after lunchtime.
